28 Aug Savannah Waterfront
Good Afternoon SWA members and interested parties,
We hope you and your loved ones are safe and well following Hurricane Matthew’s aftermath. It is encouraging to see our entire community join together while regaining its footing! Please spread the word – River street, Savannah and Tybee are open for business! I walked around and spoke to some River Street owners and workers on Wednesday to assess the damage. Please let us know if we can help promote your business. Next week, we will be on the streets “live” promoting businesses and upcoming events!
Please welcome our newest member to River Street: Byrd’s famous cookies! Congratulations to Stephanie Lindley and her team for opening their latest store! They worked hard to get their doors open despite Hurricane Matthew!
SWA Event Updates:
Savannah Pride – October 21 & 22 – Friday, October 21 from 8:00 – 11:00 pm (or later), folks will head down to River Street and support local businesses. Savannah Pride will promote via social media River Street establishments and other member businesses who would like to support Pride. If you would like to participate by offering a promotion to patrons who mention Savannah Pride, please respond with your suggested promotion via email by COB, Monday, October 17 and we will make sure the information is forwarded.
Trick or Treat on River Street and Oktoberfest begin Thursday, October 27 through Sunday, October 30. Please join us by participating in our annual “Trick or Treat on River Street” Halloween gathering, Thursday, 5:00-8:00 PM.
Oktoberfest officially begins October 28-30. The revised schedule and sign up sheets will arrive in your inbox early next week. We are hosting a newly designed kid zone with pumpkin painting, corn hole contests, Monster’s Inc. “Movie in Morrell Park” and popcorn on Saturday night with our grand finale wiener dog races on Sunday afternoon, October 30. Savannah Square Pops will donate a portion of their proceeds to Dachshund Rescue of North America (DRNA.org).
Most importantly, it would not be an official Oktoberfest without German brews, domestic brews, German cuisine, stein and barrel races, arts and crafts, and the popular Friday night fireworks sponsored by Wet Willie’s. Throughout Oktoberfest, folks will enjoy live music from our Oompah band – Rob Taylor and the Rhinelanders, Liquid Ginger band, Friday, October 28 and Georgia Music Awards – country male artist of the year – Lance Stinson, on Saturday, October 29. Please note: road closures Saturday morning for the Savannah State University homecoming parade will be in place at 9:00 am. Please visit their website for more information.
Hopped Up on Georgia Brews – tickets are on sale – visit our website and join us for the latest craft brews and brats on November 4 & 5. Discounts offered to marathon runners.
On behalf of SWA, we send best wishes, strength and support to you and your family as we rebuild Savannah, Tybee and the surrounding areas. Thank those working around the clock to restore our beautiful cities! Have a great weekend!
